In the United States of America, there are laws aimed at eliminating all forms of discrimination in society. In such a case, housing is no different. The Fair Housing Act is such a law by the Congress as early as in 1968. The primary purpose of the Act is to eliminate all forms of discrimination against citizens, DESIRING either rent or purchase a house, by factors such as caste, religion, economic position, color and even sex. In short, this law is an extension of thought, which in the 19th Century and looked to an equal opportunity for all, so many opportunities at home. At that time, the popular open housing.
Currently, the law is in force in all states and is strictly enforced. The Housing and Urban Development Department is primarily responsible for the maintenance of law and in relation to complaints of such discrimination is usually followed by the department. It has more than fifty locations throughout the country and is used by more than five hundred employees.
The law has a history of its manufacture. In the 1950s, there was a feeling that equality should apply to all, as far as accommodation facilities. This led to the creation of an entity that is the powerful lobby of the real estate industry, which tend to discriminate as far as selling houses were involved. Even if this dialogue does not have strength, but tend to fair housing. Instead of the law, the problem was the corridors of power to be swept under the carpet. However, on 28 August 1963, there was a large demonstration in the public from Seattle to ask for fair housing rights. This has led to the desired effect. The Seattle Human Rights Commission recommended that a regulation against the discriminatory policies in the field of housing.
Several applications and countless demonstrations later, the government finally wakes up to the fact that housing is a basic human need and cannot be discriminated against because of a criterion. For example, the Fair Housing Act of 1968.
A clear look at the history of humankind shows that housing has always been discriminated against, especially from the lobby to call for Cabinet colonies and economic groups. These types always excuse living with their own brothers or the same social class, thus outlawing the poor and neglected sections of society. It is high time that these old ideas banished from society and the device to a better society, not by caste, religion or economic class.
